Human-Centered Computing & Society (HCCS) hosted the General Members Onboarding & Meetup on 1 February 2026, bringing together faculty members, undergrad and postgrad CS/CSE students, and interested participants from other departments and industry to introduce the vision and structure of HCCS.

The session began with a welcome speech from Dr. Farida Chowdhury, Professor and HCCS Lead; Dr. S. M. Taiabul Haque, Associate Professor and Co-Lead; and Md. Sabbir Ahmed, Senior Lecturer and Assistant Co-Lead. They provided an overview of HCCS, its purpose, and how the meetup would unfold. They highlighted their areas of work and how they established themselves in the field of HCI.

The program then moved forward with participants from outside BRAC University sharing their experiences, expectations, and reasons for joining the HCCS research group.

The event also included the research presentations of the faculty members, where they shared their ongoing work and research areas, focusing on what they study, why it matters, and how general members can contribute to the different areas of HCI.

A dedicated segment gave stage to the participants to introduce themselves, reason to join HCCS and discuss their research interests, fostering an environment for initial sub-group alignments, with final group formation to be made in the coming weeks.

The meetup concluded with the research group’s short-term and long-term plans, what being part of HCCS means for general members, and the expectations surrounding collaboration, research engagement, and growth opportunities—marking an important step toward building a collaborative and research-driven community within HCCS.
