About the school

A five-day residential HCI learning program.

HCI Winter School 2027 is a five-day residential learning program in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and User Experience (UX). It will bring together participants from Bangladesh and other Asian countries and territories to strengthen research and practice, exchange ideas, and build connections across the region.

The school combines invited research and industry talks, hands-on workshops, mentoring and research feedback, research-to-practice discussions, collaborative activities, and networking. Participants will also have opportunities to engage with the local academic, industry and social context of Bangladesh, subject to the final program.

The school is organized by the Asia SIGCHI Committee (ASC), Human-Centered Computing and Society (HCCS), the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at BRAC University, and the ACM SIGCHI Dhaka Chapter.

Last year's school

This Winter School follows the 2025 HCI Summer School in Bangkok.

In June 2025 the Asia SIGCHI Committee ran the first HCI Summer School in Asia, at King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok. It was for early-career researchers, graduate students, and undergraduates in the region, and it was mainly academic.

The ASC Seasonal School Framework from that work names two kinds of school: a Summer School that is more academic, and a Winter School that is more industry-facing, with company visits, case studies, and speakers from both academia and industry. HCI Winter School 2027 is the Winter School in that pair.

The HCI Summer School 2025 was truly an unforgettable experience! I loved the diversity of topics, the high quality of the speakers, and the interactive workshops that allowed hands-on learning.
