HCCS Research and Collaboration Workshop 2
Date: August 25, 2026
Time: 05:00 PM
Venue: 12F-32L
Event details:
Research Venue Exploration: Introduction to HCI research publication venues, including an overview of suitable conferences and journals and their submission cycles, supported by the HCI Venues web application.
Student Research Idea Pitching: Students will present their proposed research ideas in concise 4-5 minute pitches, highlighting the problem they wish to investigate, potential research directions, and their motivation for pursuing the topic. Participants will also introduce 2-3 possible Research Questions (RQs) and share findings from a preliminary literature search to understand existing work in the area.
Faculty & RA Research Idea Pitching: HCCS faculty members and research assistants will present their ongoing or proposed research ideas, providing students with opportunities to learn about different research directions and express interest in joining potential projects.
Research Development & Supervision: Faculty members will provide guidance on refining research ideas, developing meaningful and structured research questions, identifying relevant literature, and transforming initial concepts into feasible research projects. Students will also have the opportunity to indicate their interest in working under potential faculty supervisors.
Networking & Collaboration: An informal engagement session will allow students, faculty members, and RAs to discuss research interests, explore areas of mutual interest, and identify potential faculty-student research collaborations.
Research Team Formation: Following the workshop, students will have a designated period to communicate with faculty members and explore potential collaborations. Faculty members will review student interests and research compatibility before finalizing research teams.
Post-Workshop Coordination: Finalized research teams will be communicated to students after the faculty selection process. Selected students will then begin coordinating with their respective faculty supervisors to initiate their research projects following the Summer 2026 final examinations.
