Smart Cities and Hunan-City Interaction
Overview
A smart city is more than just sensors and dashboards; it is about the people who live in it. Our research in Human-City Interaction explores how technology can make urban life in dense, rapidly growing cities like Dhaka more livable, sustainable, and participatory. We move beyond top-down infrastructure to design citizen-centric technologies that address local challenges such as traffic, waste management, and public safety.
Key Focus Areas
- Participatory Urban Sensing: Empowering citizens to collect and share data (e.g., air quality, noise, traffic) to advocate for better neighborhood services.
- Civic Engagement Platforms: Designing digital tools that allow residents to communicate effectively with local authorities and participate in urban planning.
- Mobility & Transit UX: Creating better information systems for public transport users to improve safety and predictability in daily commutes.
- Inclusive Urban Design: Ensuring that smart city technologies remain accessible to low-literacy and non-tech-savvy populations, avoiding a ‘digital divide’ in public services.
Our Impact
We strive to transform Dhaka and similar cities into "responsive cities" where technology amplifies the voices of residents and helps solve everyday urban struggles through data-driven, community-led innovation.
